IMG_20191017_151528As Houston Medical Imaging expands our 3T capable facilities, we are also adding new technology to put us at the forefront of research and diagnostic imaging.

The Ultra High Field 3T GE Pioneer magnet at HMI Pearland features the Perspectum Liver Multiscan which evaluates the overall health of the liver. Up until now, traditional MRI's of the abdomen have been limited to evaluating pathologic diseases of the liver, but it does not evaluate the liver's actual health. The Liver Multiscan has been proven to be an excellent source for detecting and quantifying liver disease. It provides data that reveals how much fat and iron content is present in the liver; these are good indicators for underlying liver diseases such as fibrosis hemochromatosis, and liver inflammation which leads to fibrosis and liver cirrhosis, one of the leading causes of death in the US.

"The study is very quick, painless and does NOT require an intravenous injection. LMS also proves to be an effective alternative to the traditional liver biopsy." -Russel Hernandez, Senior MRI/CT Technician

With the addition of the 3T LMS and our research capabilities at 3T Edinburg featuring the NASH (Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis) protocol using the Liver Lab software, Houston Medical Imaging is quickly becoming the go-to diagnostic facility for non-invasive studies of the liver that previously required the use of a liver biopsy.

These scans are done in a timely manner without the use of IV contrast, making the experience less stressful for the patient while providing radiologists and physicians key indicators of liver tissue characteristics to help better diagnose and
formulate treatment plans.
