Houston Medical Imaging Hosts Drive Benefiting Toys for Tots

With Christmas quickly approaching and everyone checking things off their list, it is easy to forget that this holiday is about giving. However, one employee at Houston Medical Imaging, Keelanni Cabrera, made it her mission to spread the true meaning of the season! Keelanni works in our billing department and has been with the company for a year and a half. She proposed that the entire company participate in a toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots in Houston. Management thought this was a wonderful idea and gave her the green light to put the project into action.

Wrapped collection boxes were distributed amongst five of our medical facilities as well as at our business center. The drive took place over three days and just our employees alone donated 126 toys! The boxes were then dropped off to the Toys for Tots organization and will be distributed to children in the Houston community to help give them a special Christmas morning.

We were so impressed with Keelanni and wanted to learn more about what inspired her to initiate and organize this project. Please read below!

What was your inspiration behind starting this toy drive?

I remember being a child waking up Christmas morning and running to see what Santa had left under the tree for me, so I thought why not try to help the community in a way that helps other kids who are less fortunate, enjoy the magic of Christmas.

Why did you think this would be a good thing for HMI to participate in?

I am currently taking some leadership courses, which is pushing and encouraging me to help my community. I thought it would be great to involve HMI in a project that is fun and gives back. I thought this might encourage participation and get everyone into the Christmas spirit. Plus, serve as a reminder that the holidays are more about giving than receiving. Last, but not least, I thought it would be a fun way for people to feel the joy and happiness that comes with buying a few toys for little ones. I know I always feel better when I gave back, so why not do it on a larger scale and have everybody feel great about giving back!

What did you hope this project would achieve? Did the results meet your goals/expectations for this project?

I hoped this project would increase employee participation and spark the idea to do more projects throughout the year, not just for the holidays. My expectations were met and I am absolutely ecstatic with the outcome! Also, the feedback and support I have received while getting the project in order was more that I could have ever hoped!

What is your Christmas message to all the families that received the gifts?

I want the families and kids receiving the gifts to know that the joy on their faces has made it the best Christmas for me this year. This project was definitely a dream come true and I hope we continue to participate in delivering the magic of Christmas for many years to come!

We are grateful to have employees that approach us with wonderful ideas like this one and who enjoy giving back to our community as much as we do. We hope that your season is filled with joy and that you have the happiest of holidays!
